I'm offering today a gorgeous all composition large antique doll with her original blonde mohair wig. This is a very large doll standing approximately 28" tall and weighs several pounds. I would say this doll is from the 1920's to 1930's era. She can either stand or be seated. I was informed by one of our eBay collectors out there her name is "Peggy" by Paris Doll Company.
I will start at the top of her head and work my way down so as not to omit anything in my description. Starting at the top of her head, she has her original blonde mohair wig, which is in my opinion in very good condition. I didn't do anything to the hair other than run my fingers through it and style it. She is wearing an antique floral head band or hat band as they used to be called from the 1950's era. I purchased this one at one of my favorite antique malls, so you know it was not cheap.
These hat bands stay securely on the dolls head, so you don't have to worry about it falling off. As you go down to her face, she has very pale blonde line for eyebrows. She has beautiful glass eyes which are sky blue in color. Her original eyes were falling into her head and they had crystallized, so I just removed them and set these gorgeous German glass eyes in her. I personally think they look so much prettier than the old eyes did. Oh so sweet and precious!
She has a dainty little nose with open nostrils for realism which flows down to her rose bud shape lips. Her lips are painted dark red with white teeth showing through and red velvet tongue behind the teeth. Her chubby baby cheeks have beautiful pink coloring.
There is a crier in the middle of her stomach, which sometimes works. Not all the time, but it has worked somewhat for me. There are no hallmarks on this very large antique doll, but a very kind lady informed me her name is "Peggy" by Paris Doll Company.
Her head head, arms and legs are jointed to her composition body. There is some minor paint loss on the doll's body, which should be considered normal for a doll 90 years old. Again, nothing serious, but it will be there when you get her home.
As most of you who follow me know, I pick their outfits based upon the way their faces look and what they speak to my heart. With this precious face and her gorgeous sky blue glass eyes, she had to be in blue and of course a touch of pink. As I'm sure you can tell by my dolls, pink is my favorite color and with the beautiful coloring on this dolls face, she just had to be in something pink too. I chose this gorgeous designer dress and yes, I said designer dress, that is all blue lace with floppy lace collar which flows over her shoulders. There are pink silk roses randomly placed on the bodice which looks so pretty with her blue eyes. As you go around to the back of the dress, there is a zipper for easy removal. I tied a very wide pink satin bow up under the bodice of the dress and tied a large pink bow with streamers flowing down the back side of the dress. The skirt is very full and is made up with the same blue lace fabric. More of the pink silk flowers cover the skirt and look oh so pretty. The underside of the dress is fully lined in baby blue batiste fabric, which allows the lace to really display nicely on the dress. I added a ten layer baby blue tulle tutu under the dress for added fullness. She is wearing blue satin bloomers which come down to her knees and match her dress beautifully. She is wearing white sparkle crib shoes with large white silk flowers on top of each shoe. T
his adorable antique doll
will be coming to her new home with her very own blue teddy bear. The teddy bear has pellets in it which allows the bear to snuggle against her body or arms. Oh so sweet!
My dolls are not played with by children who come and visit; I know that sounds mean, but sometimes they play too rough. My dolls are kept in a doll room specifically for them and are displayed for everyone to enjoy. All my dolls are truly loved and cared for as though they were my children. Their clothes are either original to the doll, made by me, or I've tried finding doll clothing from the same era as the doll or find clothing which match the personality of the doll. We do not smoke and I try very hard to keep a tidy clean home free of dust and odor. My dolls are clean and most of the time look as though they did when they were sold new. Depending on how old they are, I do try to be honest in detailing if some of the dolls have bruises, missing toes or fingers or other issues, but that doesn't mean they aren't worth having; for each one is like children.....they are all beautiful in their mothers eyes. If I've missed something it would never be intentional.
SIZE:
This antique composition "Peggy" doll is very large and heavy. She measures approximately 28" tall. Her blue teddy bear measures approximately 8" tall. This doll is extremely heavy, so she will have to be put in a larger box which will be more shipping cost. I'm so sorry, because I try to keep my shipping costs at a minimum and usually have to make up the difference I don't collect. I will try to be fair and absorb some of the cost on my own.
CONDITION:
She is a true antique doll, but I would say overall is in good condition. As with all of these antique composition dolls or bodies, they are not going to be perfect. As I mentioned above, there is some minor paint loss on the body. The tips of her fingers seem to be all there, though there is some rubbed off paint. There are a few craze lines on the doll and a larger craze line on the leg which you can see in one of the photos. I don't think it's bad, but I'll leave that up to you. Her gorgeous German glass eyes replaced her horrible crystallized eyes and are beautiful. They remain stationary, so you can look at her all day and have a smile on your face. T
he dress is a designer dress and quite expensive as far as a doll dress goes. It was purchased just for her and I think it looks gorgeous on her. I rubbed the doll down with alcohol for sanitizing prior to dressing her. We are an older couple and are Covid free. We have been home bound since March 2020 and remain away from others. The photos really tell the story about this doll. She is a beautiful doll and one of a kind. Please view complete set of photos for thorough description. I hope you can take a few minutes to look at my other dolls. God bless you. Connie
