  • Condition: This is a great African wooden trumpet with a carved head. There is copper wire around the neck. I cannot tell but the head may have been reattached under the wire, but it seems totally secure. See pictures

    Description

    The is a very long- 49" (124cm) - one piece Wooden Trumpet from the Zande Area of the Congo. It has a primitive carved head, leading to a 3" opening at the end of the horn.This is an original, not a reproduction . I believe it is from the 19th century. It is pretty heavy. There is copper wire wrapped around its neck. I believe this is original to the trumpet, but it appears that at some point in time there may have been a repair, but I cannot be sure. It seems to be totally secure now. I have had it a very long time as a wall decoration. It is very cool - and - if you have a lot of breath, you can still get deep sounds out of it!
